so hold each other close
and close your eyes
just for a single moment
feel each other’s beating hearts
all your love keeping you warm
and then run towards the sun,
your dreams, your life together,
all that lies beyond tonight’s horizon
towards the sun – @erinspillerpoetry
Their love was as tangible as their breath dissipating into the cold, but nothing was going to stop Alana and Simon from enjoying their engagement photography session- not even a cold, Canadian winter evening.
One of my favourite moments from our outdoor engagement session was when we were standing underneath a bridge, when the glow of the golden light touched them in the perfect way. The traffic above sounded thunderous, but the noise seemed to fade away for Alana and Simon, whose embrace was a natural, authentic moment that I had the privilege of capturing with my camera.
I love when couples have such a strong connection that they can’t help but hold each other, kiss each other, or joke with each other, even with someone else there. Alana and Simon had this sort of effortless connection that made me smile throughout the whole session.
Good fiancees are the ones that notice beard frost. Great fiancees are the ones that help thaw it out, laughing the whole time and then hugging it out. These two were so cute that I couldn’t stop smiling!!
We eventually took a break to dance and jump around. Dancing is a fantastic strategy if you’re cold and don’t have access to hot chocolate, a giant heated blanket, or an animal to snuggle.
This helped a lot more than any of us expected! From now on, if you ever see me dancing in the middle of a sidewalk, you know why.
As the sun continued to set, I saw the perfect opportunity for a photograph. After clambering into the snowbank and sinking thigh-deep in the freshly fallen snow, I had a newfound appreciation for the three pairs of pants I was wearing. I also captured a fantastic moment that showed off Alana and Simon’s impeccable taste in clothing and the deep orange sun shining through the trees.
I had so much fun during Alana and Simon’s engagement photography session that I still can’t help but smile whenever I think about it. Even in the face of unsavory temperatures, I had the opportunity to photograph two outgoing, funny, adorably in love people.
